Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the change path of the emotional, social, and school adjustment of adolescent peer-bullying victims, to identify the relationship of three adjustments, and to examine the protective factors that help adolescent peer-bullying victims to develop successfully. Data were drawn from Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS), a longitudinal panel study on Middle school students in the second grade. Latent Growth Curve Model(LGM) along with both AMOS 7.0 and SPSS 15.0 were used to analyze intra-individual changes in adjustment degree as well as the inter-individual differences in these changes. The results of analysis are follows: (1) The degrees of emotional, social, and school adjustment of adolescent peer-bullying victims are significantly lower than the adjustment of adolescents where peer-bullying was absent. (2) Latent Growth Curve Model(LGM) analysis revealed both a significant variance of intercept and a variance of slope for emotional adjustment. This means there are notable individual differences in the change path of emotional adjustment, while the change path of social adjustment and school adjustment remains the same. In addition, there are notable individual differences in the change path of both social and school adjustment. (3) The adjustment of adolescents in peer-bullying victims is multi-dimensional. (4) While the protective factors associated with emotional and social adjustment are self-concept, the protective factors associated with school adjustment are self-concept, parental attachment, and positive sibling relationships. The study concludes that the adjustment of adolescent peer-bullying victims is multi-dimensional. Therefore, in order to improve the adjustment of adolescent peer-bullying victims, various protective factors associated with each adjustment have to be increased. These findings led to multiple implications for counselors and teachers helping adolescent peer-bullying victims. More implications and limitations of this study were discussed along with suggestions for future research.
