Abstract
For marriage and family therapy (MFT) to be established as a credible and institutionalized professional field in Korean society, the continued accumulation and advancement of clinical research supporting evidence-based practice are essential. This study, grounded in such awareness, aimed to examine current trends in clinical research on MFT by conducting a comprehensive review of 615 articles published over the past three years in leading international journals. 80 studies were selected and analyzed using a narrative review approach. The analysis revealed that diverse types of clinical research, such as; outcome studies on therapeutic models/interventions, process and common factors research, community-based implementation studies, are being actively conducted. Furthermore, the findings indicate increasing diversity and sophistication in both content and methodology, as evidenced by the globalization of clinical research, the expansion of target populations and presenting issues, and the refinement of sampling and analytical techniques. Based on these insights, this study presents key directions and discussions for promoting clinical research in the Korean MFT field and proposes a “framework for clinical research to develop and refine evidence-based models.” It is hoped that this study will provide a comprehensive view of global clinical research trends and help domestic researchers establish practical and strategic orientations for future research.
