Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of daily stress and perceived social support in the effect of basic psychological needs of college students on non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and to verify the dual mediating effects. Data were collected from 321 college students using self-report questionnaires, excluding participants who provided insincere responses or reported suicidal self-injury. The findings of the study are as follows. First, significant correlations were identified among autonomy, competence, relatedness, daily stress, perceived social support, and NSSI. Second, daily stress was found to have a significant mediating effect on the relationship between autonomy, competence, relatedness, and NSSI. Third, perceived social support significantly mediated the relationship between competence and NSSI. Fourth, dual mediating effects of daily stress and perceived social support were observed in the relationship between competence and NSSI. The implications and limitations of this study and recommendations for future research were discussed.
