문】현대문화는 근대성이 과잉으로 구현된 체제이다. 이 문화에서 문제가 되는 것은 이성중심주의에 따른 “배제와 소외” 현상에서 초래되는 역기능들이다. 서구의 근대는 인간의 존재성을 이성을 중심으로 규정함으로써, 인간의 총체적 존재성이 일면적으로 이해되기에 이르렀다. 그에 따라 이성 이외의 존재성이 지니는 다양한 층위들, 생명의 감수성이나 인식이성 이외의 삶의 이성은 물론, 초월적 지평에 관해 이해하고 해석하는 일들을 가능하게 하는 부분들이 억압되고 왜곡되기에 이르렀다.이러한 현대문화의 일면성 때문에 야기된 수많은 유사영성 현상이 지금 우리의 문화현실에 만연하고 있다. 이러한 영성현상 전체를 이 글에서는 포스트모던적 영성으로 규정하고 있다. 이 논문은 이러한 포스트모던 영성현상의 배경과 현상을 밝히고, 이를 극복할 탈근대적 영성에 대해 논의하고 있다.따라서 이 논문은 이런 논의를 전개하는 철학적 작업을 위해서는 그리스도교적 영성에 대해 해명하는 해석학적 작업이 요구되기에 이에 대해서도 논의하고 있다. 또한 현대문화의 영성현상의 철학적 지평은 영지주의적 전통과 고대 신비주의 철학이 간직하고 있던 “nous”에 대한 이해를 해명할 필요가 있기에 그에 대해서도 논의하고 있다.그리스도교적 영성과 영지주의적 전통, 심지어 “logos”와 “nous”에 대한 이해는 사실 동일한 체험에 대한 다른 관점에서 이루어진 상반된 이해를 드러내고 있다. 그러기에 이렇게 상호대립되면서도 동일한 근원에서 유래한 현상을 구별하는 작업은 현대문화의 영성 이해를 위해서는 반드시 요구되는 일일 것이다. 이것을 여기서는 인간의 존재성에서 찾고 있다. 그러한 존재성은 이성의 외연과 내포, 이성의 함의를 넘어 총체적 존재 이해에서 주어질 것이다. 이러한 의미에서의 영성론이 현대문화에서 요구되는 영성으로 정의될 것이다.그래서 이 논문은 현대문화의 포스트모던 영성 현상을 넘어, 이러한 존재성에서 이해되는 정당한 영성이해를 내재적 초월성의 영성으로 규정하고 이에 대한 해명의 작업을 전개하고 있는 것이다.
Abstract
A hermeneutical Study of the "Spirituality" in Modern Culture Shin, Syng-Hwan Modern culture is the system of excess modernity. What makes the problem in this culture is the adverse effect incurred by “exclusion and isolation” of logocentrism. Modernity of the West defines human Beingness based on reason and understands the totality of human Beingness from a single perspective. Various levels of existence, sensibility of life, and the others of reason besides cognitive reason as well as the understanding and interpretation of transcendentality have been suppressed and distorted. Many similar phenomena incurred by the one-sidedness of modern culture reside in our cultural reality. These phenomena are defined as postmodernist spirituality in this study. This study clarifies the background and reality of postmodernist spirituality and discusses how we can overcome them. In this realm, this study also discusses interpretation of Christian spirituality, from the philosophical perspective. As the philosophical horizon of modern culture requires clarification of understanding of “nous” which used to be conserved by Gnostic tradition and ancient mystic philosophy, it is also discussed in this study. Christian phenomena and Gnostic tradition, and even the understanding of “logos” and “nous” discloses contrasting understanding from different perspectives. In this respect, distinguishing the two contrasting elements that derive from a single source would be essential for our understanding. Here, this is found in human Beingness. Human Beingness could be understood holistically beyond implication of reason, and this is how spirituality could be defined in the way desired by modern culture. Thus, this study goes beyond the postmodernist spirituality of modern culture and attempts to clarify understanding of spirituality based on Beingness as implied spirituality of inner transcendentality.
