철학 상담의 논리:보에티우스의 『철학의 위안』을 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to find a logic necessary for philosophical counseling by paying attention to the logical form by which a female philosopher persuaded her client and by analyzing some features of the logical form. The female philosopher made out her case by refuting the argument of the client. Needless to say, her refutation utilizes some conceptual definitions and presuppositions which of course contain a specific worldview. Like Euclid who demonstrated his case only with axioms and definitions in The Elements, the female philosopher tried to change the worldview of her client only with the existing basic principles and definitions. The female philosopher wants her client to turn to the worldview, to which he deserves to belong, and she thus points out the distortion of the client’s worldview. The client doubts normal situations people generally accept. For the client, the world is always capricious, unfair, and it thus is just a series of chances. Thus, happiness for human beings is fragile and not stable, says the client. In contrast, the female philosopher argues that the God, which is ever unchanged amid innumerable changes in the world and which is thus the highest good(summum bonum) and fair and just, always exists, that the evil, which seemingly exists, does not actually exist, and that the world is moved only according to necessity, although it seems to be a series of chances. In her argument, one can find a logic of philosophical counseling which can change the worldview of client by appealing to his reason.
