세대론에서의 세대 형성 요인과 상호세대론적 세대 개념의 물음

본고는 앞서 수행되었던 상호세대론 연구의 연장선상에 있다. 앞선 연구에서 세대를 언제나 ‘자기 세대’와 ‘타세대’의 상호관계 속에서 논의해야함을 정초로 삼아 기존 세대 연구를 포섭하여 수행할 수 있는 방법론적 세대 구분틀을 마련코자 하였다. 그러나 상호세대론이 세대 연구의 담론으로서 충실히 수행되기 위해서는 기존의 세대 연구에서 다루어지는 세대 개념을 분석적으로 논의하고, 그 의미를 해석적 연구를 바탕으로 상호세대론에 맞추어 세대 개념을 이해하고 정의할 필요가 있다. 이것은 세대 개념이 가지는 기능을 분석하여 다의적으로 사용되고 있는 세대 개념을 하나의 이론체계로 정립하기 위한 기초 연구의 일환이다. 본고에서는 상호세대론적 맥락에서 세대 개념을 재정의하기 위해 먼저 사회학적 세대 연구의 기초를 세웠다고 평해지는 칼 만하임의 저서 『세대 문제』에서 세대 연구의 2가지 축과 칼 만하임의 세대 개념을 이해하고, 이후 오늘날 세대 개념을 둘러싼 4 가지 용법과 그에 따른 세대론들을 상호세대론적 관점에서 정리한다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 우리가 세대 개념을 어떻게 받아들이는 것이 옳은가에 대해 상호세대론적 관점에서 논의하고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper is an extension of the previous research on intergenerational theory. The previous study presented a methodological generational division that could include research on existing generations, based on the fact that generations should always be discussed in the interrelationship between 'one's generation' and 'other generations'. However, for the intergenerational theory to be faithfully carried out as a discourse of generation research, it is necessary to analytically discuss the generation concept handled in the existing generation research. It is also necessary to understand and define the generation concept in line with the intergenerational theory based on interpretive research. This is a part of basic research to establish the multi-purpose generation concept as a single theoretical system by analyzing the function of the generation concept. In this paper, in order to redefine the concept of generation in the context of intergenerational theory, we first develop an understanding of the two axes of generation research and Karl Mannheim's concept of generation in Mannheim's book The Generation Problem, which is said to have laid the foundation for sociological generational research. The four usages surrounding the concept of generation today and the resulting generational theories are summarized from the perspective of intergenerational theory. Based on this, we will discuss how to accept the concept of generation from an intergenerational perspective.
