본고는 청오(靑吾) 차상찬(車相瓚, 1887-1946)이『어린이』와 『소년』에 게재한 아동용 역사인물서사의 특징을 살펴 아동용 역사서사 갈래가 만들어지는 과정을 추적하였으며 이를 통해 ‘근대성’과 ‘아동문학’ 의 관계를 살피고자 하였다. 2장에서는 차상찬에 관한 선행연구를 중심으로 차상찬의 아동용 역사서사의 명명이 불일치하는 원인을 검토하였다. 이러한 불일치가 나타나는 원인 규명 작업이 아동용 역사서사의 정체성 형성 과정을 검토하는 전략이 될 수 있으며 결과적으로 작품 속 사실과 허구의 상관관계가 논의의 핵심으로 작용하고 있다. 3장에서 차상찬의 아동용 서사를 보다 구체적으로 살펴 인물 중심의 제목과 표제어의 갈래 구분을 분석하였으며 차상찬의 작품을 현대 사회의 지식정보책 갈래인 ‘역사인물서사’로 분류하는 것이 적절할 것으로 판단하였다. 동시에 그의 작품 중 일부는 픽션 장르인 역사동화의 특징을 겸비하고 있는 것으로 파악하였다. 4장에서는 차상찬의 근대 아동용 역사서사가 어떻게 아동 독자를 주목하였는지 살펴보았다. 그의 작품은 텍스트에서 아동 독자를 직접 호명하며 대화체를 사용하여 이야기를 쉽게 전달하려 시도하였으며 역사 속 특정 인물을 취하여 그의 생애 전반부를 중심으로 기술하였다. 이러한 두 가지 서사 전략은 현대 아동용 지식책과 위인전에도 보편적으로 나타난다. 나아가 차상찬의 작품들은 역사적 사실을 강조하면서도 이야기의 재미를 위해 기담 즉 환상을 도입하여 사실과 허구의 공존을 꾀한다. 이러한 특징은 아동용 역사서사 중 지식정보책 갈래 및 역사동화 갈래의 정체성에 영향을 주었다. 또한 아동문학은 근대 성인문학과는 변별되는 차이를 두고 발전하였기에 ‘근대성’과 ‘아동문학’의 관계는 더욱 깊이 고찰되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This paper studies the characteristics of stories of a great man in history for children written by Cha Sang-chan (1887-1946), which was published in "Children" and "Youth," and traces the process of creating branches of stories of a great man in history for children. Chapter 2 investigates the reasons for the discrepancy in the nomenclature of Cha Sang-chan's based on previous research. The effort to identify these causes of discrepancy could serve as a strategy to examine the identity of stories of a great man in history for children, ultimately highlighting the interplay between facts and fiction as a key point of discussion. Chapter 3 takes a closer look at Cha Sang-chan's stories of a great man in history for children and analyzes the distinction between people-oriented titles and branch divisions of keywords. As a result, it is deemed appropriate to classify them as "historical character narratives" which is a branch of contemporary society's informational books. Additionally, it is noted that some of his works exhibit characteristics of fictional historical tales. Chapter 4 searches for how Cha Sang-chan's stories of a great man in history for children captured the attention of young readers. His works directly address child readers in the text, utilizing conversational language to easily transmit stories. He focuses on specific historical figures and describes their early lives, employing two narrative strategies commonly found in modern children's informational books and biographies. Furthermore, his works emphasize historical facts while introducing elements of curious stories such as fantasy to enhance the storytelling experience. These characteristics influenced the identity of sub-genres within stories of a great man in history for children, such as children's informational books and historical fairy tales. Moreover, due to the distinct development of children's literature from general literature in the modern times, the relationship between "modernity" and "children's literature" needs to be considered deeply.
