全湜의 「槎行錄」과 해로 사행의 체험시

Abstract

Jeon Sik(全湜) was born in 1563 and died in 1642. He had been to Ming as Joseon's envoy in 1625. 「Sa·haeng·rok(槎行錄)」, contained in his work collection 「Sa·seo·jip(沙西集)」 vol. 5, is the record of incidents and experiences in that envoy trip. In addition, experiential poems on the envoy trip are included in the volume 1 of 「Sa·seo·jip」. The envoy trips of that time were the seaway trips to Beijing, the capital of Ming Dynasty, escaping Qing who seized East Liao(遼東) region. In those trips, several incidents had happened. Staffs drowned and envoy ships sunk in the incidents. The party of Jeon Sik also died suddenly on the way to Beijing and they could narrowly anchored the envoy ship without being sunk by storm. On the return trip, unfortunately, one ship from four envoy ships sunk and all of forty men on board died. These incidents were the experiences which could barely be found in the later overland envoy trip. To that extent, seaway trip were such a strange and dangerous experience at that time. This article, giving attention to that point, examined the record of 「Sa·haeng·rok(槎行錄)」 in line with the poems of 「Sa·seo·jip(沙西集)」 centering on the incidents on the sea route.
