이유원(李裕元)의 해좌명승(海左名勝) 연구

귤산 이유원은 조선 후기 대표적 관리이자 문인이었다. 이유원은 정치 뿐 아니라 우리나라 곳곳의 유려한 명승에 대해서도 깊은 관심과 애정을 가지고 있었다. 그의 명승에 대한 관심은 자신의 거처였던 사시향관과 가오곡을 넘어 우리나라 전역의 다양한 지리와 유적에 미치고 있었다. 이유원은 여러 지방 관직을 거치는 동안 해당 지역의 명승을 유람하고 그 소회를 작품으로 지었다. 이유원의 저작인 『임하필기』와 『가오고략』에 많은 명승에 관한 기록이 있으나, 명승 관련 연구는 금강산에 한정되어 있어 그의 전체적인 면모를 살피기 어려웠다. 본 연구는 『임하필기』와 『가오고략』에 포함된 명승에 관한 기록을 재정리하고, 그의 명승관에 관해 다시 살펴보았다. 그 결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 이유원은 특정 지역의 명승을 처음부터 계획적으로 정하고 찾아가거나 기록하지 않았다. 하지만 그는 글쓰기에 있어서 철저히 계획적이자 고증적이었다. 그래서 명승에 관해 주관적인 입장보다는 객관적인 사실과 그곳의 내력을 바탕으로 기록하고자 하였다. 또한 자신이 유람했던 지역에서 빠진 부분이 생각나면 다시 그곳을 방문하고 살펴본 후 새롭게 작품을 짓기도 하였다. 또 다른 특징은 그는 자신의 시각으로 명승을 선정하고 있다는 점이다. 그의 기록은 이미 다른 이들에게도 알려진 명승지도 있으나, 다른 이들에게는 찾아볼 수 없는 새로운 명승 또한 다수 포함되어 있다는 사실이 말해준다. 이유원은 우리나라 명승을 묘사하는데 그치지 않고, 주관적인 감상이 아닌 객관적인 사실을 표현하는데 주력한다. 그렇기에 독특한 내용과 형식을 지닌다고 하겠다. 결과적으로 명승에 관한 기록을 통해 이유원의 개인적 서사 습관과 주관적 미의식이 글쓰기에 미친 영향에 대해 다시 확인할 수 있다.
Abstract
Gyulsan Lee You-won was a representative official and writer in the late Joseon Dynasty. Lee You-won was deeply interested and affectionate not only in politics but also in beautiful scenic spots throughout Korea. His interest in scenic spots extends beyond his residence, Sashihyanggwan and Gaogok, to various geography and ruins throughout Korea. Lee You-won toured famous places in the area while working in various local government offices and made his appreciation into a work. Although there are many records of scenic spots in Lee You-won’s writings, 『ImHaPilgi』 and 『GaoGoryak』, it was difficult to examine his overall appearance because the research on scenic spots was limited to Geumgang-Mountain. This study rearranged the records of famous places included in the entire 『ImhaPilgi』 and 『GaoGoryak』, and looked at his famous places again. The results can be summarized as follows. The reason why won’t go to a specific area from the beginning, and did not record or recorded. However, when it comes to writing, it was thoroughly planned and empirical. When he remembered the missing part of his cruise area, he visited it again, examined it, and then built a new work. Another characteristic is that he is setting it as a scenic spot from his own perspective. His record includes many new landmarks that are already known to others, but not to others. On the other hand, Lee You-won does not stop at describing Korean scenic spots, but focuses on expressing objective facts rather than subjective appreciation. Therefore, it has a unique content and form. Through records about scenic spots, we can reconfirm the impact of Lee You-won’s personal narrative habits and subjective aesthetic consciousness on writing.
