Abstract

The purpose of this article is to review the list of sijo radio broadcasts of gyeongseong broadcasting station in the early 20th century to examine the transmission of sijo art and its characteristics during this period. The subject of the study was broadcast from 1927 to 1933, and we will check how the actual sijochang was broadcast and what the broadcast repertoire is. In addition, we would like to reveal various series and musical characteristics of sijochang at the time through radio broadcasts. Radio broadcasts in the 1920s do not have the genre name sijo. However, if you review the actual broadcast songs, you can see that the sijo broadcast was transmitted along with other genres. Therefore, the genre name presented on the radio broadcast list should not be simply interpreted at this time. The sijo was almost broadcast with gasa. This can be said to reflect the performance customs of the time that have continued since the 19th century. The relationship between the singing-gasa and the sijo was passed down intact even in the early 20th century, and it was also revealed in the newly emerged media radio during this period. In addition, radio broadcasting informs that sijochang was passed down through various genealogies in the early 20th century. The sijo sung by the gisaengs has different characteristics depending on the characteristics of gwonbeon and the teacher's musical tendency. At the center of sijo broadcasting are hanseong gwonbeon and joseon gwonbeon. They tried to transform the sijochang and pursue a new aesthetic in connection with the japga or gagok. The various aspects of the sijo identified on the radio are examples of how colorful and active the sijo were enjoyed in seoul at the time.
