Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explore the teaching experiences of contemporary dance, ballet, and Korean dance professors within the Academic Credit Bank System, focusing on their instruction of practical dance majors. By examining the challenges and transitions they encountered, the study seeks to propose effective teaching methods and curriculum improvement strategies tailored to the needs of practical dance students. Methods: Using a narrative interview approach, the study conducted an in-depth analysis of teaching experiences shared by five professors specializing in contemporary dance, ballet, and Korean dance. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data on early teaching experiences, differences in pedagogical approaches, and the process of adapting teaching methods. Repeated analysis was used to identify key themes. Results: Professors recognized the differences in educational approaches between pure(contemporary dance, ballet, and Korean dance) and practical dance students and made efforts to adjust their teaching methods accordingly, often incorporating cross-genre integration. They emphasized the need for new teaching strategies and curriculum reforms that reflect the characteristics of practical dance. Conclusion: The findings provide foundational data for the development of teaching methods in practical dance and the improvement of educational practices within the Academic Credit Bank System. Further research is needed to explore more specific instructional strategies and policy-level improvements.
