Abstract
Purpose: This study systematizes Park Geum-seul’s dance movement terminology referenced in Kim Young-hee’s Basics of Breathing (Hoheupgibon) as a shared frame of reference and proposes a “Breath–Formula System” to describe, interpret, and reproduce the movement system of Hoheupgibon in a consistent manner. It also examines the need for standardized terms and shared vocabulary to support Korean dance education and transmission. Methods: First, literature review and data/material analysis were conducted to extract correspondences between movement descriptions in Hoheupgibon and Park’s terminology. Second, design principles were organized in a correspondence table across three axes: Park’s terms, breath– formula, and parameters. Third, a class architecture and an assessment rubric were designed as a reference model for educational application. Result: The two systems showed strong conceptual alignment in underlying principles. Applying the Breath–Formula System clarified the meanings of individual movements across time, intensity, form, and movement quality, supported by definitional statements and correspondence tables. Documentation was also provided for terminology standardization, instructional design, and assessment. Conclusion: The proposed structure—integrating directive terms, breath–formula, parameters, and context—provides a shared framework that renders Korean dance movements definable, teachable, and assessable. Future studies should validate the model in practice and expand it through a standardized glossary and digitally supported training applications.
