Abstract
Recently, some literatures which analyze market microstructure are published, especially using high-frequency data. These data also can apply to traditional variance ratio study. The aim of this article is to study the serial correlation of the KOSPI200 stock index futures and its link with some of the most important quantities of financial market, that is, volatility and trading volume. To do this, this article empirically analyzes the characteristics of variance ratio of KOSPI200 stock index futures, using intraday high-frequency data in the period 2004-2007. It is found the evidence that intraday serial correlation becomes positive in high-realized volatility regime. Moreover, it is shown that the unexpected volatility influence is more strong on variance ratios than predictable volatility. It is also found that trading volume is significant to explain the variability of variance ratios. In other words, the intraday serial correlation is higher on high trading volume. Finally, the serial correlation of intraday variance ratios is positive in short period(1 minutes) but is negative in long period(20 minutes).
