가상분포추정을 이용한 소득불평등도 분석

소득불평등도나 빈곤상태의 변화는 소득분배 구조뿐 아니라 인구구조의 변화도 반영한다. 1~2인 가구의 증가나 노인 가구의 증가가 대표적인 인구구조 변화의 추세이다. 한 시점의 소득불평등도 또는 빈곤 정도가 다른 시점에서의 소득불평등도나 빈곤 정도와 달라진 데에는 두 시점 간의 인구 구조 또는 가구 구성 요소의 변화도 영향을 끼친다. 따라서 소득분배 구조의 변화를 분석할 때에는 인구구조의 변화를 통제한 소득불평등 정도 또는 빈곤 정도를 추정해 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 우리는 ‘재가중치 부여에 의한 가상 소득 분포 추정’기법을 이용해 가구 특성 변수의 분포가 2003년에서와 같은 수준으로 고정되어 있다면 그 이후의 소득 분배 상태와 빈곤 상태가 어떠했을 지를 살펴보았다. 로렌쯔 곡선, GINI계수, FGT지수 등을 비교해 본 결과 가상소득분포 하에서 GINI계수와 FGT지수가 실제보다 더 낮게 나타나서 소득불평등도와 빈곤 정도에 대한 연구 시에 가구 특성 변수의 통제 필요성을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
Changes in income inequality or poverty status are influenced by changes of both income structures and population composition such as increase in proportion of single person households or aging. In order to correctly understand trends and dynamics of income inequality or poverty, we need to take the changes in population composition into account. To meet the needs, we employed the technique so-called ‘estimation of counterfactual distributions through re-weighting’ and examined how the Korea’s inequality or poverty measures like Lorenz curve, GINI coefficient, and FGT index would have been if households characteristics remained unchanged at year 2003. We found those measures would have been different substantially, which highlighted the importance of controlling for population composition in understanding inequality or porverty dynamics.
