요한 세바스찬 바흐의 칸타타는 합창, 아리아, 레치타티보, 그리고 코랄 등의 다양한 편성으로 이루어져 있을 뿐 아니라 각 악장에 제시하는 음악 역시 무척이나 다양한 양식과 작곡방식으로 구성되어 있다. 그런데 칸타타의 가사도 그것의 음악 못지않은 다양한 층위의 역사적, 신학적 의미의 결을 보여준다는 사실은 주목할 만하다. 특별히 바흐의 칸타타에는 당대의 신학적 흐름을 반영하는 정통 루터교와 경건주의의 신학언어들이 모두 등장하고 있다. 서로 다른 신학적 지향점을 지닌, 서로 다른 시인들에 의해 구성된 가사는 따라서 음악학적인 분석의 대상이 된다. 이 글은 바흐의 칸타타 가사가 담고 있는 여러 가지 층위의 신학적 의미를 논의하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 칸타타 가사의 분석을 통해 정통 루터교와 경건주의의 신학적 견지가 어떠한 언어로 등장하는지 설명할 것이다.
Abstract
Similar to the music style found in Bach's Lutheran cantatas, the texts of the cantatas exhibit various types of theological perspectives and viewpoints of the early part of the 18th-century Germany. In particular, a cantata libretto reflects various ways in which both Lutheran Orthodoxy and Pietism contest, coexist, and relate from one another, thereby becoming a truly multi-layered text that requires a close reading and analysis. The purpose of this paper is to explore to the extent which various types of cantata texts deliver these two types of theological implications. Furthermore, this paper attempts to understand ways in which these implications are woven together in order to create multi-layered theological meanings and messages.
