Abstract
This study is to determine the political meanings within musical patronage by Queen Christina of Sweden, one of the most influential musical patrons of Rome in the 17th century. Abdicated the throne of Sweden and converted to Catholicism, nevertheless Queen Christina always had political ambition. Becoming the ‘host’ of the academy, she stood at the center of political space. Likewise, as an autocrat, she maintained and justified her power and status, and she used music to show off her power. Therefore, the works sponsored by Queen Christina show ‘traces’ of work indicating glory, magnificence, and noble faith of Queen like Daniele Profeta by Giacomo Carissimi and Pompeo Colonna. Selected as the librettist of Daniele Profeta, Colonna was an enemy of Spain, which helped abdication of Queen and her journey to Rome, indicating that this Oratorio was another message from Queen to be away from protection of Spain to recover her independent political power.
