Abstract
Social market economy and energy transition in Germany for last 60 years are analyzed from the perspective sustainable development framing inquiry question that energy system and economic growth path are unsustainable which are based on the extraction of limited resources and energy with growing human demand on these. This study raised a question about energy transition newly in relation between energy system and economy system as an innovations process to find the place and scale of economy which is excessive in society. Energy transition in Germany has developed on the basis of social market economy view to find a balance between free competition and social justice, with acceptance of sustainable development ideology in which environment, economy and society are harmonized. Energy transition in Germany since the 1970s in social climate, social market economy since the Second World War has been progressed ecologization and democratization of economy with developing integrated with sustainable development since the 1990s. Energy transition policy in Germany on the federal government level has been started by the coalition between Social Democracy Party and Green Party in 1998. Energy transition policy continues to be accelerated as a new energy policy, since the german government has planned sustainable development policy officially in the year 1994. The core of energy transition from unsustainable energy system with fossil energy and nuclear energy to sustainable energy system with renewable energy and energy efficiency is the ecological transformation of economy which is innovation process ecologically and democratically in economy system including mass production, mass consumption and mass waste. Therefore, this study suggests that the new economic growth approach should be found on the basis of sustainable economic paradigm for the development of ecological maintenance, economic efficiency and social justice with balance, and then energy policy also should be set up in accordance with these aims.
