Abstract
This study examines three climate change education programs designed for elementary school students to explore the trends in climate change education. For this purpose, it categorizes the modules based on the type of environmental education contents addressed and the sustainability perspectives represented. The findings reveal that the content types “response” and “effect” were more frequently emphasized in recently developed programs. However, those programs covered topics such as abnormal climate patterns, desertification, the rise in sea levels, and glacial reduction less frequently. While the four types of environmental education content were well represented in the latest program, elements such as the intention to act, system/integrated thinking competencies, future/design thinking competencies, and the act to solve environmental problems were underrepresented. Additionally, the social perspective of sustainability was infrequently addressed, and the integrative perspectives are largely absent from most programs. Educational implications are discussed.
