특히, 미국공인회계사회의 전신인 회계사와 장부기장자협회(the Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers)와 미국공공회계사협회(American Association of Public Accountants; AAPA)는 공인회계사시험제도와 공인회계사 자격에 관한 법률을 처음으로 의회에 제출하였다. (The Federation of Societies of Public Accountants in the United States)가 결성되어 뉴욕주뿐만 아니라 다른 여러 주에서도 공인회계사법을 제정하도록 하는데 크게 이바지하였으며, 그 후 1905년 미국공공회계사협회(American Association of Public Accountants; AAPA)에 통합하게 되었다. (The American Institute of Accountants; AIA)로 명칭을 변경하였으며, 조직내에 회계절차위원회 (A Statement of Accounting Principles) 등이 있다. (The American Institute of Accountants; AIA)로 통합되었다.
