본 논문은 뉴욕 공립 공연예술도서관 내에 위치한 제롬 로빈스 댄스 디비전의 제롬 로빈스 기록영상 아카이브에 대한 내용을 바탕으로 하고 있다. 제롬 로빈스 댄스 디 비전은 오랜 기간 춤에 관한 자료들을 수집, 기록, 보존하고 이를 사용자들에게 제공 하기 위한 노력을 꾸준히 해오고 있는 선구적인 기관이다. 본 논문은 도서관의 자료 수집 정책 및 과정을 영상 기록물들을 중심으로 살펴보고 자료의 보존 및 목록화 작 업에 관한 부분도 간략히 다루고 있다. 또한 안무에 대한 기록물으로서 춤을 비디오 테이프에 기록하는 과정도 설명하고 있는데, 이때 춤 기록 비디오테이프는 그 편집 과정에서 안무가와 비디오그라퍼 간의 협업이 매우 중요하다. 본 논문은 인터넷 상의 디지털 춤자료 사이트의 구현과 같은 향후 뉴욕 공립 공연예술도서관의 발전 계획 또 한 언급하고 있다.
Abstract
This paper begins with an introduction to the Jerome Robbins Archive of the Recorded Moving Image, Jerome Robbins Dance Division, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, a longtime participant and leader in this effort to collect, document, preserve and make accessible these materials about dance. With a focus on moving image records, a description follows of the policies and procedures of collecting in a library setting, including a brief section on preservation and cataloging. The process of documenting dance on videotape as choreographic record is described. The importance of the collaborative process between choreographer and videographer in editing a dance videotape record is emphasized. The paper concludes with the future plan for the Library, which includes a Digital Dance Resource Site on the internet.
