쌍계사 보관석가괘불도의 연구

초록
첫째, 18세기 2/4분기 이후 3/4분기 까지 쇠퇴하던 쌍계사의 사세는 1781년 대웅전 삼세불회도의 조성 전후로 흥성하기 시작하여 1790년 화엄경변상도에 이어 1799년에 쌍계사의 사상과 연관된 보관석가불의 독특한 괘불도의 조성에 이를 수 있었던 조성배경을 밝힐 수 있었다. 둘째, 쌍계사 보관석가괘불도는 단독의 보관석가불입상을 화면에 꽉 차게 그린 구도와 우아하고 날씬한 얼굴과 신체 형태, 화려하고 정교하며 호화찬란한 채색과 호화롭게 채색된 정교한 장식과 문양 등의 도상 특징과 양식이 돋보이는 단독 보관석가불의 최고 걸작 괘불도로 높이 평가되고 있다. 셋째, 쌍계사 보관석가괘불도는 원래의 화기는 1929년 중수 때 사라져 버렸지만 당시 이기한 화기에 의하여 1799년에 조성된 괘불도임을 알 수 있고 이것은 18세기 다른 보관석가괘불도 및 당시의 불화 양식과 비교하여 밝힐 수 있다. 이상에서 밝힌 것처럼 쌍계사 보관석가괘불도는 화사하고 우아한 당대 최고의 단독불 괘불도임을 이 연구를 통해서 분명히 알 수 있게 되었다.
Abstract
First, the background of the composition is revealed that the state of Ssanggyesa temple, which declined from the second quarter of the 18th century to the third quarter of the 18th century, began to prosper before and after the creation of the three worlds Buddha assembly painting in the main hall in 1781, and following the Avatamsaka Sutra Tableau Painting in 1790, it was possible to create a unique banner painting of the crowned Shakyamuni Buddha related to the ideas of Ssanggyesa temple in 1799. Second, the crowned Shakyamuni banner painting at Ssanggyesa temple is highly regarded as one of the finest banner paintings of the single crowned Shakyamuni Buddha, which stands out for its iconographic characteristics and style such as composition of a single crowned Shakyamuni Buddha figurine full on the screen, elegant and slender face and body shape, brilliant, sophisticated and splendid colors, and luxuriously colored elaborate decorations and patterns. Third, the original painting record of the crowned Shakyamuni banner painting at Ssanggyesa temple was lost in 1929 during heavy repair, but according to the painting record transcribed at the time, it can be seen that it is a banner painting created in 1799, and it can be revealed in comparison with other crowned Shakyamuni banner paintings in the 18th century and Buddhist painting styles of the time. As revealed above, in this study it was found that the crowned Shakyamuni banner painting at Ssanggyesa temple is the brightest and most elegant single Buddha banner painting of the time.
