Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to examine self-serving bias for HIV/AIDS infection among college students. The results of research indicated, as expected, the rates of respondents for HIV/AIDS varied with dimensions of involvement. At social level of involvement, respondents demonstrated high agreement that HIV/AIDS is very serious problem and has a potential impact to the future of society as well. On the contrary, most of them agreed that HIV/AIDS is not serious problem for them personally, furthermore it would not have a great impact on their futures. Besides students perceived their own vulnerabilities much lower than those of other persons. In contrast, subjects judged themselves and close friends as equally invulnerable. The implications of this study may be very suggestive for HIV/AIDS prevention campaign. First, HIV/AIDS preventive campaign aimed to adolescents and young adults are indispensable. Second, in this case, the core message of campaign is advised to be produced to enhance the personal involvement of target audience. Last, the message of PSA could be persuasive if delivered by familiar model to the students rather than expert as possible.
