본 논문의 목적은 우리가 춤을 추고 감상하는 방식을 메를로-퐁티의 현상학을 기반으로 살펴보고, 그의 몸 지각론을 바탕으로 춤 현상에서의 몸의 의미를 알아보는 것이다. 또한 우리가 춤을 추고 춤을 보는 이유와 그럼으로써 춤이 존재하는 의미를 메를로-퐁티의 존재론을 바탕으로 설명하는 것이다. 이는 향후 연구에서 들뢰즈의 감각론으로 이어지는 시발점이 될 수 있을 것이다. 메를로-퐁티는 전기 연구에서 몸-주체를 내세우며 몸 지각과 우리 몸이 실제로 몸을 담고 경험하고 있는 생활세계의 근원성을 주장하였다. 춤 공연 현장에서의 지각하는 몸은 메를로-퐁티가 말하는 몸의 능동성, 행동하며 세계로 열려나가는 몸, 주객의 교환 관계 등을 집약적으로 경험한다. 이를 통해 메를로-퐁티는 후기의 연구에서 지각, 나아가 감각의 통일을 이야기한다. 감각 사이의 교차를 이야기하는 이중 감각의 예에서, 봄과 만짐, 즉 감각 사이의 소통, 그리고 감각들 간의 공명 관계로써 그것들을 모두 아우르는 ‘하나의 감각’, ‘살’, 들뢰즈의 용어로‘리듬’을 설명한다. 몸의 ‘살아있음’, 그 생명력을 그 자체로 가시화하는 예술은 바로 춤이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 춤의 존재론을 현상학적으로 규명해보고자 했다는 데 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to explain the body perception in dance and the way we perceive a dance based on Merleau-Pontyʼs phenomenology. Also I am trying to investigate the ontology of dance according to Merleau-Pontyʼs ontology of the flesh and Deleuzeʼs idea of “sensation”. In Phénoménologie de la perception『Phenomenology of perception』, Merleau-Ponty asserts the primacy of “the body-subject”, criticising the Cartesian “thinking subject”. He also suggests the primacy of Lebenswelt(Life-world) which we actually inhabit and experience with our whole bodies. This body is called as lʼêtre-au-monde(being-in-the-world) which behaves actively and communicates with others in the world. In Le visible et lʼinvisible『The visible and the invisible』, Merleau-Ponty develops his idea of body perception to the ontology of the flesh. The flesh is “element” of Being, which is the principle of perception, sensation and the resonance of it. Also, the flesh had the visible and the invisible aspects together. This notion of “flesh” is regarded as “rhythm” in Deleuzeʼs term. In a dance performance, we can experience and embody the activeness of body perception and the body having subjective-objective moment simultaneously. Dance reveals itself from dancing-perceiving bodies. At this moment, the “liveness” and “vitality” of bodies are revealed through dancing. I proposes that the liveness is not only the intertwining sensations but also the invisible aspect of the visible dance, above all.
