본 연구는 북한의 평양, 신의주, 혜산 지역 장마당 쌀 시장가격과 시장환율을 이용한 달러 표시 쌀 시장가격을 국제 쌀 시장 주요국(미국, 중국, 태국) 쌀 가격과 비교하여 일물일가의 경제 원칙이 성립하는지를 분석하였다. 단위근 검정(ADF test, Maddala and Wu(1999) 패널 단위근 검정)과 구조 변화 검정[Bai and Perron(1998) 검정법, Andrews(2003) 검정법]을 사용한 실증 분석 결과에 의하면, 중국과는 쌀 상대가격비율이 안정적인 평균을 중심으로 움직이는 정상 시계열로 판단되고, 이는 양국의 쌀 가격 사이에는 일물일가 원칙이 성립하는 것을 암시한다. 하지만, 미국 또는 태국과의 쌀 상대가격비율에는 다수의 구조 변화가 탐지되었고, 비정상 시계열의 특징을 보여 일물일가 원칙이 성립하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 추정된 쌀 상대가격비율 변화 시점은 북한과의 화해 분위기보다는 북한의 군사 도발에 의한 긴장 고조와 이에 대한 경제 제재와 관련이 깊은 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
Using market exchange rate and market prices for rice in North Korea, we test the law of one price with the comparison of rice prices between North Korea and other countries (China, Thailand, US). We conduct the augmented Dickey-Fuller test, the panel unit root test proposed by Maddala and Wu (1999), structrual break tests proposed by Bai and Perron (1998) and Andrews (2003). According to the results from various tests, the law of one price holds for the rice prices between North Korea and China. However, multiple breaks are found and nonstationarity is found for the relative price ratios between North Korea and Thailand or North Korea and US. The estimated break points for Thailand and US appear to be related with high tension periods due to North Korean military threats and international sanctions.
