동태적 일반균형모형을 이용한 한국 사업체의 진입과 퇴출: 미국과의 비교 분석

본 연구는 한국 사업체의 진입과 퇴출양상을 동태적 일반균형모형을 통해 분석한다. 먼저 한국 사업체의 진입 퇴출 양상을 미국과 비교하여, 두 나라 사이 진입과 퇴출로 인한 자원의 재분배 과정이 어떻게 다른지를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 한국 사업체의 진입률과 퇴출률이 미국 사업체에 비해 상당히 높으며 한국 사업체의 평균적인 규모는 미국 사업체에 비해 작은 것으로 나타났다. Hopenhayn and Rogerson(1993)의 모형을 변형한 동태적 일반균형 모형은 한국 사업체 자료에 나타난 진입 퇴출양상을 수량적으로 잘 설명할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한국 사업체의 동학과 부합하는 모형을 토대로 고용보호제도의 도입이 노동시장과 거시경제 변수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 모형 분석 결과 고용보호제도를 통한 해고 비용의 증가는 일자리 소멸률 뿐 아니라 일자리 창출률도 감소시켜 전체적인 고용량을 감소시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the patterns of establishment dynamics in Korea. For the purpose of comparison, we investigate the differences in the entry, exit, job creation, and job destruction patterns between Korea and the United States. We find that entry and exit rates of Korean establishments were relatively higher than U.S. establishments. The average size of Korean establishments was smaller than that of the U.S. Korea showed higher rates of job creation and destruction than the U.S. To analyze the different features of establishment dynamics in Korea, we build a general equilibrium model of establishments with entry and exit based on Hopenhayn and Rogerson (1993). We find that a higher entry cost in Korea and different idiosyncratic shock process of firms may explain the differences. We use the model to investigate the extent to which the introduction of Employment Protection Legislation (EPL) affects the labor market and aggregate economy. We find that EPL that increases firing cost may lead to a decrease in employment and productivity.
