제주지역 조사·수집 문중고문서의 현황과 특성 - 어도 진주강씨·조천 김해김씨·구좌 동래정씨를 중심으로 -

Abstract

This paper briefly introduces the current status and history of research and collection of Munjung ancient literature documents in the Jeju region that were conducted through the first on0site investigation that took place in October, 2012. From these materials, the descendants of Suhwnag Kang of the Jinju Kang family, descendants of Bongji Kang of the Jinju Kang family, descendants of Heejung Kim of the Jocheon Kimhae Kim family and descendants of Seokrok Jung of the Gujwa Dongrae Jung family to see how they settled in the four Jeju regions of Munjung, and how their family tree formed. The current status and content of the Munjung ancient literature are also reviewed through categorization of where the documents have been stored. In doing so, the universality and uniqueness of each ancient literature from the region were comprehensively addressed. By reviewing the temporal, spatial and literary significance of Munjung ancient literature of the Jeju region, the paper investigated the specific and empirical aspects of lifestyles of the time. Such aspects must be understood as part of the uniqueness and universality of Jeju within the historical context in association with the main land. The publishing of an anthropology on the ancient literature from the Jeju region is expected to raise awareness on the importance of and need for preserving such documents and to promote better understanding of the life and history of Jeju residents in the past. In particular, since the Munjung ancient literature was researched and compiled along with 洞里古文書, existing issues of studies being leaning more towards the ancestor registry, Bunjaeki and Myoungmun will be resolved while complementing existing studies. In addition, this study can provide a starting point for research on primary documents of ancient literature by scholars in the field of general history, document history, economic history, social and cultural history and lifestyle history. Such studies are expected to help with a more multi-faceted understanding of the lives of Jeju and its empirical history.
