숙련노동의 상대수요 결정요인에 대한 국내의 연구들은 왜 상대공급이 아닌 상대수요의 변화를보아야 하는지에 대한 선행연구가 결여된 상태에서, 선진국들에 대한 관련문헌의 연장선상으로진행되어 왔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 1992년부터 2006년까지의 장기간 광업제조업통계조사 자료를 이용하여 한국의 숙련노동 비중과 숙련노동 임금수준의 변화를 산업 간 효과와 산업내 효과로 분 해 관찰함으로써, 숙련노동의 상대수요와 상대공급의 변화가 숙련노동의 임금비중에 대하여 시기적으로 서로 다르게 영향을 미치고 있음을 실증적으로 밝히고 있다. 1992-1997년 기간에는 상대공급 측면에서 숙련노동의 비중을 변화시킨 반면 1999-2006년 기간에는 수요측면에서변화요인이 발생한 것으로 나타났다. 이를 확인하기 위하여, 간단한 숙련노동의 상대수요함수에대한 패널실증회귀분석을 실시하였으며, 그 결과 역시 이러한 현상을 지지하는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
Economic literature in Korea on relative demand for skilled workers has been proceeded in a same line with case studies of developed countries, without a preliminary study specific to Korean case on reasons why we need to examine the demand side instead of the supply side. This paper tries to fill in the gap by investigating relative employment and wage of skilled workers to unskilled workers using Korea Statistics database for mining and manufacturing sectors for a long period from 1992 to 2006. We empirically found a fact that the supply and demand affected the relative employment and wage of skilled workers during different periods. First, the relative supply of skilled workers increased more than the relative demand during the period of 1992-1997. Second, the relative demand for skilled workers increased more than the relative supply during the period of 1999-2006. To confirm this finding, we conducted panel analysis for a simple demand function of skilled workers and found that the demand side was affected during 1999 and 2006 only.
