Abstract
This study tested the validity and internal structure of the Faculty student interaction scale. Participants were 318 university students. Psychometric evaluation included item analysis, internal consistency estimates of reliability, and construct validity. All item-total correlations were above the recommendation of .40. The internal consistency for faculty student interaction sub-scales approached adequate reliability ranging from .70 to .88. Exploratory factor analyses suggested three scales to measure faculty-student interactions: (1) academical interaction, (2) personal interaction, (3) general interaction. This study tested three confirmatory factor analytic models to provide validity evidence based on its internal structure. Results revealed that faculty student interaction consists of multidimensional structure and a bifactor model, provided the best fit to our data. The results support the utility of the faculty student interaction scale. Implications, limitations, and directions for future research are discussed.
