임진왜란 해전 측면에서 이순신 장군의 정신전력 연구

이 글은 임진왜란 당시 전쟁을 지휘했던 이순신 장군이 기술한 ‘친필본 일기’, 정조 대왕 지시로 편찬한 『이충무공전서(난중일기)』, 단행본, 연구논문 등을 참고하여 해상전투 간극한적인 악조건의 전투 환경 속에서 이순신 장군이 발휘한 초인간적 모습에 맞춰 그의장수로서, 인격자로서, 지성인으로서, 그리고 전쟁영웅으로서 묵묵히 맡은 바 임무에 최선을 다한 행적을 현대적 개념의 정신전력 틀에 맞춰 재조명해 본 것이다. 이순신은 일본과의 7년 전쟁 동안 해전에서 대부분 이겼다. 그러면서도 왜군의 공격으로 잃은 전선은 단 두 척에 불과하였다. 그의 명예를 중시하는 가치관, 국가와 국민에 대한 투철한 충성심, 진충보국의 희생정신, 독보적인 전략 전술 식견 등의 비범함은 그의업적과 함께 그를 우리 민족의 성웅으로 높이 받들어 우러러보게 한다. 이러한 그의 정신전력은 오늘날 우리 군 장병들이 모두 교훈으로 삼아야 할 가르침이다. 이순신의 내면세계 그리고 국난 극복의 지도자로서 그의 주요 해전 속 정신전력을 분석해 보았다. 오늘날 우리가 본받고 실천할 그의 ① 나라 사랑 정신, ② 책임으로 완수하는정신, ③ 정의를 실천하는 정신, ④ 희생을 감내하는 정신, ⑤ 창조와 혁신의 정신 등은국가와 국민을 위해 시사한 바가 매우 크다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 과거의 국난을 슬기롭게 승리로 이끈 이순신 장군의 해전 승리를 통해 현재 우리 군의 변화를 촉진하고, 첨단 강군을 육성하는 현대적 실천 방안을 지속해서 연구하는 풍토가 조성되었으면 한다.
Abstract
This article refers to the ‘handwritten diary’ written by Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who commanded the war during the Imjin War, the 『Yi Chungmu-gong Jeonseo (Nanjung Ilgi)』 compiled by the order of King Jeongjo, single volumes, research papers, etc., and reexamines Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s superhuman appearance in the extremely adverse conditions of naval battles, as a general, a person of character, an intellectual, and a war hero, and his silently devoted deeds to his assigned duties, in line with the modern concept of mental power. During the seven-year war with Japan, Admiral Yi Sun-sin won most of his naval battles. However, he lost only two ships to the attacks of the Japanese. His extraordinary values of valuing honor, his staunch loyalty to his country and people, his spirit of sacrifice for the country, and his unrivaled strategic and tactical insight, along with his achievements, make him highly regarded and revered as a national hero. His mental power is a lesson that all of our soldiers today should learn from. We analyzed Yi Sun-sin's inner world and his mental power in major naval battles as a leader who overcame national crises. His ① spirit of loving the country, ② spirit of fulfilling with responsibility, ③ spirit of practicing justice, ④ spirit of enduring sacrifice, and ⑤ spirit of creation and innovation, which we should emulate and practice today, have great implications for the country and the people. Therefore, through this study, we hope to promote changes in our current military through the naval battle victory of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who wisely led the national crisis of the past to victory, and to create an atmosphere in which we continuously study modern practical methods to foster a cutting-edge and strong military.
