Abstract

In 2018, the RAND Institute published a Will to Fight study explaining what is important to win the war among the military forces operated by the U.S. Army. According to the U.S. military's analysis of war patterns according to the level of intangible power reinforcement, World War I broke out in the 1910s, when the level of intangible power reinforcement was low, causing tremendous damage, and in the 1970s, the Vietnam War was defeated despite having the world's strongest combat power. And in 2000, he left an indelible wound due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The research results emphasize that despite the overwhelming possession of tangible power, if there is not enough intangible power, the war will be defeated. Does our military currently have enough intangible forces to win the war? Is our military currently in harmony with tangible and intangible combat power so that we can demonstrate our best combat power? No quantitative research results scientifically proved to these questions have been found anywhere. This study confirms that the estimated number of combat effects that intangible combat power and mental power actually exert in KCTC combat training should be quantitatively derived by applying a scientific analysis method to balance tangible and intangible combat power. In addition, by analyzing the importance of the components of intangible combat power that have more influence on combat effectiveness, we intend to provide a basis for determining the needs and priorities of education and training.
