Abstract
A firm sense of security awareness among the public is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring national security. Throughout history, war films have served as a powerful medium to promote this awareness, and numerous prior studies have investigated their impact on public perception. However, most existing research has not directly extracted and analyzed audience perceptions using empirical data. To address this gap, the present study analyzes viewer responses to war films through film review data, with the objective of developing a model for content creation that strengthens public awareness of national security. Three domestically produced films based on the Korean War—Operation Chromite, Welcome to Dongmakgol, and The Front Line—were selected as the subjects of analysis. Using text mining techniques, audience reviews were systematically examined to uncover prevalent themes, sentiments, and perceptions related to national security. Based on these findings, the study proposes a content development model tailored to reinforce national security consciousness through media. The significance of this research lies in its empirical approach, which captures public perception from the audience’s own perspective rather than relying solely on expert analysis or narrative interpretation. By grounding its conclusions in actual viewer feedback, the study not only deepens our understanding of how war films shape public attitudes but also offers a practical framework for developing future content aimed at cultivating a more security-aware citizenry.
