본 연구의 목적은 전역한 복학생이 군 복무에 대해 가지는 인식이 그들의 학업과 진로에 끼치는 영향을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 교육적, 정책적 시사점을 도출하는 데 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해서 한국직업능력연구원이 전국에 있는 청년을 표집하여 구축한 한국교육고용패널(KEEP Ⅱ)의 6차연도 데이터를 분석했다. 이중 현역병으로 군 복무를 마친 남자 2,544명이 연구대상이고, 외생독립변수는 학력, 육군여부, 부대 내 자기개발 프로그램, 군 임무와 대학 전공의 관련성 등이다. 매개변수는 군 복무가치 인식이고, 내생종속변수는 전역 후 학업수행, 진로개발, 자기인식, 생활태도 등이다. 구조방정식 모형분석을 적용하여 분석한 결과 4년제 대학에 재학 중 입대하고, 육군에 복무하며, 부대 내에서 자기개발 프로그램이 있고, 군 복무와 부대 임무의 관련성이 높을수록 군 복무가치를 긍정적으로 인식했다. 또한 군 복무가치는 전역 후 학업수행, 진로개발, 자기인식, 생활태도 등에 유의미하게 긍정적인 영향을 주었고, 특히 전역 후 생활태도에 대한 긍정적 영향이 가장 높게 나타났다. 이 연구결과는 MZ세대 장병들에게 군 복무가치를 교육하는데 적용할 수 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze how perceptions of military service among students who have completed their military service influence their academic performance and career development. Based on these findings, the study seeks to draw educational and policy implications. Data for the analysis were derived from the 6th wave of the Korea Education Employment Panel (KEEP II), developed by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training, which sampled youth nationwide. The sample consisted of 2,544 male students who completed active-duty military service. The exogenous independent variables included education level, army service, engagement in self-development activities during military service, and the relevance of military duties to university majors. The mediating variable was the perception of the value of military service, while the endogenous dependent variables were post-service academic performance, career development, self-awareness, and lifestyle attitudes. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed in the analysis. The findings indicate that students who enlisted while attending a four-year university, served in the Army, engaged in self-development programs within their units, and found a strong connection between their military duties and their academic major perceived a higher value in military service. Furthermore, the perception of military service value had a significant positive impact on post-service academic performance, career development, self-awareness, and lifestyle attitudes, with the strongest effect observed on lifestyle attitudes. These findings suggest potential applications for educating young adult soldiers on the value of military service.
