초록
In vitro embryo production (IVEP) has emerged as a powerful tool for reproductive research, offering a viable substitute for in vivo experimentation. While IVEP platforms are increasingly applied in assisted reproduction, species conservation, and toxicological evaluation, current protocols often fall short of recapitulating the physiological conditions of early gametogenesis and embryogenesis. A central challenge lies in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which compromise cellular integrity, developmental competence, and experimental reproducibility. Empirical evidence highlights that oxidative stress impairs oocyte maturation, fertilization, and preimplantation development through redox imbalance and subcellular damage. Antioxidant supplementation has thus gained attention as a promising intervention. Recent strategies emphasize stage-specific, organelle-targeted, and species-adapted approaches to maintain physiological redox homeostasis. This review elucidates the mechanistic interplay between oxidative stress and impaired embryo development in IVEP, evaluates the efficacy of antioxidant-based interventions, and proposes refined protocols to enhance the precision and stability of IVEP systems, thereby reinforcing their utility as robust alternatives to animal experiments.
