Abstract

This study explores the characteristics of giftedness observed in the digital media art expression processes of artistically gifted students who come from disadvantaged communities, as well as the distinctive features revealed in their works. Pre- and postquestionnaires were developed based on established criteria for gifted art program development, and an 18-session program was designed and implemented for this demographic. In addition, the works of a student identified as artistically gifted were analyzed. The findings showed that students with giftedness consistently demonstrated traditional characteristics such as initiative, creativity, and task commitment throughout their expressive activities. In terms of the use of digital media, they exhibited integrative sensibility, novel sensory approaches, and autonomy in expression. From the perspective of visual expression, they displayed unique and individual styles, overcoming limited expressive skills to effectively communicate their intended messages. These results suggest the need for alternative selection processes that address limitations in expressive ability and highlight the importance of further research, emphasizing qualitative judgments through individualized, multidimensional, and continuous observation in identifying disadvantaged gifted students in art.
