Abstract

Technology valuation aims to assess the validity of a technology when it is applied to a real business. It is initiated at the stage when the technology becomes practical with various factors of evaluation such as analysis on technicality, marketability, profitability etc. While proceeding the evaluation, the assessor must follow specific evaluation standards in order to be objective, professional and trustworthy. The evaluation model should also be selected with consideration for the technology itself and the potential market. In principle, the resulting value of the technology valuation reflects fair market value. The testing technology is classified according to the Korea Standard Industry Classification. The information and guidelines are based on the American Standard Industry Classification and the Standard Industrial Classification. The evaluation model used in the study calculated the value of a technology with the discounted cash flow method. To do so, the study selected 4 elements─the economic lifespan of the technology, potential sales, potential free cash flow, technology factor─as the crucial variables for the evaluation. The study determined the potential economic lifespan with income approach method. The value of the potential economic lifespan should be objective, thus the study assessed various factors and evaluated them according to the TCT index. Since this study is a case research on evaluating the value of advanced construction technology, it can be used as supplementary information for related firms when making decisions on investing.
