Abstract
A Study on “the Quest for the truth from Actualities” in the scholarship of Kim Jurng Hi / Yi, Suhn Gyohng This thesis illuminates Kim Jung Hee's Silsagusi(實事求是) from the methodological aspects. Silsagusi(實事求是) has the long origin and the 'term' itself was used by many scholars, but for Kim Jung Hee it was elevated to the essential methodology that penetrates the core of his study. His Silsagusi(實事求是) puts more value on 'facts' and 'righteousness' than practical things. He illuminates right meaning of things based on the facts and translates it into action. This is the characteristic of his Silsagusi(實事求是). Therefore, it includes the concepts of a bibliographical study, the study of righteousness and practice. This spirit of Silsagusi(實事求是) stands on the Ongojisin(溫故知新) attitude that respects the existing culture and tradition, but it is not fettered by stiff authority due to its austere critical ability. He scrutinizes and integrates conflicting theories, then concludes to his self maturing theory. In this study, I firstly examined the concept and characteristics of Kim Jung Hee's Silsagusi(實事求是) and then, saw that this methodology is applied to all areas of his scholarship by concrete examples. Also I maintained that the spirit of Silsagusi(實事求是) was not only limited to his academics but was the constant principle of his life.
