한성준 춤의 전통성 모색

한성준은 조선조 말기와 일제 강점기에 활동하였으며，시대와 사회를 꿰뚫어 보는 눈을 가지고 오랜 시간 전해져 오던 고유의 춤들을 집대성하고 체계적 전승의 기초를 닦은 전통춤계의 독보적인 큰 인물이다. 본 연구의 목적은한성준의 삶과 춤 인식이 형성되고 본격적인 춤 활동이 이루어진 전후 맥락과더불어 그가 가진 춤에 대한 관점, 춤 활동 및 춤에 드러나는 특성들을 분석함으로써 그에 나타나는 전통성을 고찰하고자 하는 것이다. 한성준의 삶과 춤을 통하여 한성준 춤이 가지는 전통성의 의미를 다음과같은 세 가지의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 첫째는 역사적 연속성의 관점으로，한성준의 춤은 우리 민족의 오랜 역사 속에서 축적되어온 문화적 자산의 바탕 위에 새로이 정립된 것이다. 한성준은 민족 문화에 대한 이해를 보여주고 있으며 그것에 기반을 둔 창의적인 재정립 과정을 보여주었다. 그리고 다음 세대에 고유의 문화를 전승해야 한다는 역사적 소명의식을 가지고 구체적인 활동을 펼침으로써 전 근대의 사회에서 근대로의 이행기에 민족 고유의 춤문화 전달자로서 전통성을 유지하는데 큰 역할을 하였다. 둘째는 주체적 인식의 관점으로，한성준이 보여준 고유한 춤문화에 대한 천착은 역사의식과 시대의식을 바탕으로 한 자국 문화의 주체적 수용과 전승의지의 발현이었다. 많은 이들이 외부로부터 들어온 신문화에 현혹되어 있을 때힘있는 타인에 의해서가 아니라 자신의 주체적 의식을 가지고 고유 문화의 전통성을 지키고 조직적인 활동으로 펼쳐내었다. 마지막은 보편적 통합성의 관점으로，한성준은 다양한 춤들을 종합적으로아울러 민족 고유의 보편적 미감을 정립하고 민족 문화의 원형으로서의 자리매김을 하였다.
Abstract
A Study on the Traditionality of Han Sung Jun Chum Kim, Youn-Jung (Sungkyunkwan University) Han Sung Jun was one of the most significant figure during the late Chosun Dynasty and Japanese Colonial period, who established the backbone of traditional Korean dance. The purpose of this study was to explore the traditionality of Han Sung Jun by examining his perspectives on dance as well as the major characteristics of his activities in the context of cultural and historical lenses. This study utilized a method of literature review as a tool to discover the traditionality of Han Sung Jun Chum (Dance) and redefine its significance. Collected data included his personal anecdotes, individual dance performances, records on his activities with Chosun Music and Dance Company. In conclusion, the traditionality of Han Sung Jun Chum could be understood in three layers. First, it was historical continuity. Han Sung Jun Chum was established based on historical appreciation of Korean culture. He had deep consciousness on the mission of delivering traditional dance to the next generation. Second, it was independent awareness. Han Sung Jun Chum revealed strong sense of cultural independency and resisted against foreign influences at that time. Finally, it was generality toward unity. Han Sung Jun Chum exemplified the amalgamation of diverse dance tradition and at the same time established authentic general aesthetic sense. Han Sung Jun Chum still existed as a prototype of Korean dance.
