뮤지컬은 노래와 춤, 연기가 어우러지는 공연양식을 말한다. 또한 뮤지컬에서 춤은 대사나 음악으로 표현될 수 없는 극적 상황을 관객들이 빠르고 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 시각화한다. 본 논문은 춤 기능 연구를 위하여 ⟨Cats〉를 기반으로 등장인물에 나타난 움직임의 특성을 통해 춤 기능의 중요성을 인식시키는데 그 목적이 있다.⟨Cats〉에 나타난 특성을 고찰한 결과는 다음과 같다. 이 작품에서 가장 많이 나타난 춤의 유형은 현대무용, 발레, 재즈댄스, 탭댄스, 아크로바틱 그리고 제스처다. 극의 주제 전달을 위하여 언어로써 대사나 음악으로는 표현할 수 없는 극적 상황을 춤으로 표현하여 춤 기능의 역할이 중요한 강점이었음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 앞으로 많은 뮤지컬을 수용하고 발전시켜 나가기 위해 안무자는 다양한 춤 언어를 교육해야 하며, 연출과 대본, 작곡과 대사, 춤 언어와 소통할 수 있는 교육 프로그램이 필요하며, 뮤지컬 관람 문화를 확대시켜 안무자로서 안목을 넓혀나가야 한다.
Abstract
Musical refers to a performance style in which song, dance, and acting harmonize. In addition, dancing in musicals visualizes dramatic situations that can not be expressed in lines or music so that the audience can quickly and easily understand them. The purpose of this thesis is to recognize the importance of the dance function through the characteristics of the movements appearing in the characters based on ⟨Cats⟩ for the study of dance function. The results of examining the characteristics in ⟨Cats⟩ are as follows. The most common dance types in this work are contemporary dance, ballet, jazz dance, tap dance, acrobatics, and gestures. In order to convey the theme of the play, it was found that the role of the dance function was an important strength by expressing the dramatic situation through dance that can not be expressed through speech or music through language. Therefore, in order to accept and develop many musicals in the future, choreographers must educate various dance languages, and educational programs to communicate with directing and scripts, composition and dialogue, and dance languages are required, and by expanding the musical viewing culture, the choreographer has a view.
