Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of resilience on the impact of nursing caregivers’ emotional labor on the quality of long-term care services. To this end, 300 people working as nursing caregivers in Gyeongsangbuk-do were surveyed online and face-to-face, and after excluding the questionnaires with insincere responses, descriptive statistics, reliability, and validity analyses were conducted using SPSS 25.0 program for 283 valid responses. Correlation analysis was used to confirm the directionality between variables, and multiple regression analysis and mediation analysis were used to verify the effects of the variables of emotional labor, service quality, and resilience, and the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between emotional labor and service quality. The results of this study are as follows. First, caregivers’ emotional labor has a negative effect on service quality; second, caregivers’ emotional labor has a negative effect on resilience. Third, there is a partial mediation effect of resilience on the effect of caregivers’ emotional labor on service quality. These results suggest that caregivers’ emotional labor positively mediates resilience, which ultimately affects the level of service quality provided to long-term care recipients. Based on the findings, this study discusses practical and policy implications for mitigating caregivers’ emotional labor, and aims to contribute to suggesting concrete measures to improve the quality of long-term care services.
