본 논문은 노인들이 죽음을 맞이할 때 영적 안녕감을 지님으로 불안을 감소시키고, 안정적으로 생을 마감할 수 있도록 도울 수 있는 가능성을 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다. 노인에게 가장 큰 두려움은 죽음에 대한 공포일 것이다. 그동안 이 같은 노인의 신체적 변화에 따른 문제를 해결하기 위한 의학, 심리학 및 교육학 등 여러 분야에서의 연구가 진행되어 왔지만 영성문제 만큼은 일반적인 방법에 의한 해결이 용이하지 않다. 성경은 인간의 죽음을 자연적이고 육체적인 죽음보다는 영적인 죽음으로 본다. 즉 죽음을 유한한 삶에서 영원한 삶으로 옮겨가는 시작으로 본 것이다. 따라서 교회는 노인의 신체적, 심리적 그리고 영성에 대한 인식을 기초로 영적 성숙을 위한 대안을 제시해 줄 수 있어야 한다. 즉 노인에게 영성훈련세미나나 성경학습등 그들의 영성개발을 위한 다양한 프로그램을 제공해서 노인의 영성을 함양하고 가치관을 새롭게 정립할 수 있는 기회를 갖도록 해야 한다. 그 결과, 노인의 죽음불안을 감소시키기 위한 교회의 죽음준비교육이 노인문제를 해결하는데 중요한 영역으로 자리매김하게 될 것이다. 부활신앙은 기독교에만 있는 유일한 교리이다. 그러므로 죽음에 대한 영적인 입장을 견고하게 정립할 때 부활신앙의 기반위에서 노인들이 영적 안녕감을 지닌 채 죽음에 대한 불안을 극복할 수 있게 될 것이다.
Abstract
The thesis is aimed to discover the possible ways of helping the elderly, who are facing death, to reduce their anxiety level while increasing peaceful mind of spirit. With no doubt, death is the biggest fear of all for the elderly people. Although there has been a significant mount of physiological and medical research for resolving different types of issues raised by physical aging of the elderly, there has been a lack of spiritual approach to the issue. The Bible regards death as more than physical or natural. It is rather spiritual from its view. It is a door to the eternity. Therefore the church should be able to suggest a way of spiritual maturity based on physical and psychological status of the old. It should develop more self-learning opportunities for the elderly people by providing them various programs, such as spirituality seminars and biblical lectures. As a result, educating death preparation will become one of the most important roles of the local church. Among all religions, only Christians hold resurrection as a doctrinal faith. Therefore, when church's spiritual view of death is clearly established, the elders will overcome the fear and reduce their anxieties concerning the death with faith in resurrection.
