Abstract
The attitudes of Nordic EU member states and their people are dual since they have strong support to Nordic cooperation and integration as well as EU remain. They embrace pragmatic and normative integration of the Nordic region and supra-national single-market integration of the EU and make full use of the opportunity for national and Nordic regional development. Though Sweden and Denmark have revealed as UK’s closest allies in EU votes and concern with their own policies and strategies, Sweden and Denmark, as small states, also regard the EU as important for their interests and prosperity. The Nordic region has been successful in overcoming financial crises, welfare and labor market reforms, among others, and has been most successful in ‘Europeanization’ of Lisbon strategy. Sweden and Denmark are key countries that have accomplished their own goals and have contributed to the EU’s goals and agenda with coexisting dual integration and dual identity.
