이 글의 목적은 다음 두 가지다. 첫째, 세월호 문제에 관한 논쟁의 저변에는 ‘민주공화국 정체성’에 관한 보수와 혁신 진영의 서로 다른 해석이 있다는 것을 밝힌다. 둘째, 이러한 ‘기존 해석’에 내재하는 공통된 치명적 결함을 밝힘으로써, 그동안 양대 정치 진영이 자신들의 정치적 입장이나 주장의 근거와 기준으로 사용해온 ‘기존 해석’으로부터 자유롭게 풀려나도록 돕는다. 이 두 가지를 중심으로 세월호 문제에 담긴 ‘참다운 의미’, ‘진실’을 밝힌다. ‘생활세계 기반’을 잃어버린 이 시대 ‘침묵하는 다수’는 ‘공의로운 생활세계 기반’을 진실로 구하고 있고 기대하고 있다. ‘공적문제 해결과 공적주제 실현의 선순환가능성 및 그에 대한 신뢰’가 곧 그 기반이라고 할 수 있다. 그 기반을 실마리로 하여 ‘민주정치 방법’과 ‘공화국가’에 관한 새로운 해석이 이 시대 우리에게 절실히 요구되고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is twofold. The first is to reveal that there are ‘the different interpretations’ between the conservative and liberal camps on the identity of democratic republic state in the debate on the Sewol-ferry Problem. By investigating on the common fatal defects inherent in ‘the existing different interpretations’, the second is help the two major political camps free themselves from ‘the existing different interpretations’ which have been used as the basis and criterion for their political positions or arguments. The truth contained in the Sewol-ferry Problem is revealed through the above two reviews. ‘The silent majority’ in this era, which lost ‘their base of life world’, are truly seeking and anticipating ‘their base of public life world.’ ‘Virtuous circulatability in solving public problems and realizing public themes and trust in it’ is ‘the base of public life world.’ With ‘the base of public life world’ as a clue, new interpretations of ‘democratic political method’ and ‘republic state’ are required of us in this era.
