경영전략이 COVID-19 시기 보유기간초과수익률에 미치는 영향

초록

경영자의 전략적 선택은 기업의 장·단기 성패에 결정적 역할을 하기도 한다. 2020년 전 세계 자본시장은 COVID-19 영향으로 큰 충격을 받았다. 불확실성이 증대되면서 기업을 둘러싼 이해관계자들 간의 정보비대칭이 증가했고, 이에 따라 경영자의 전략은 기업의 주가 방어와 초과수익률을 결정하는 중요한 요소로 고려되었다. 본 연구는 2020년 3월 19일까지의 주가 폭락에서 경영자 전략이 주가 방어에 유의했는지를 먼저 살폈다. 추가로 2020년 3월 20일 이후의 주가 상승 국면에서 보유기간초과수익률에 경영자의 전략이 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 결과적으로 방어형 전략과 전략적 일탈을 감행하지 않는 경우 통계적으로 유의한 양의 보유기간초과수익률을 보고하였다. 팬데믹 위기 상황에서 경영자의 전략이 개별 기업의 주가수익률에 미치는 영향을 발견하였으며 더불어 향후 자본시장에 구체적 전략 선택의 방향을 제시하였다는 데에 기여점이 있다.

Abstract

A manager's strategic choice plays a decisive role in the long-term and short-term success of a company. In 2020, capital markets around the world were shocked by the impact of COVID-19. In this face of growing uncertainty, the manager's strategy becomes a determinant of the company's stock price defense and abnormal return. This study first examined whether the manager's strategy paid attention to stock price defense during the stock price crash until March 19, 2020. Additionally, the effect of the manager's strategy on the buy and hold abnormal return was confirmed during stock price rise phase after March 20, 2020. As a result, statistically significant amounts of buy and hold abnormal returns were reported when defensive strategies and strategic deviation were not carried out. This study discovered the contribution of the manager's strategy to the stock price returns of individual companies in the context of the pandemic crisis and presented the direction of specific strategy selection in the future capital market.
