Abstract
The number of mobile shoppers indicates sharp increase with the activation of smart phoneusages. Mobile shopping has the advantage of convenience and responsiveness compared totraditional shopping, leading to rapid acceptance. On the contrary, the unique characteristic ofmobile commerce service (convenience and responsiveness) can give rise to impulse buying andregret by which the consumers' welfare is likely to be diminished. In this study, the effects ofconvenience, responsiveness (as strength of mobile commerce service) and control (as weaknessof mobile commerce service) on the impulse buying and regret has been investigated. The empiricalresults show that convenience and responsiveness has significant positive effect on impulsebuying and impulse give rise to regret. However, the path from control to impulse buying is notsignificant. Interestingly, the moderating role of consumer knowledge is empirically validated. The impacts of mobile commerce service characteristics on impulse buying are significant onlyfor the high-knowledge group. These results suggest that consumer knowledge can trigger thenew digital divide. Based on the empirical results, implications focused on the consumer educationand policy are discussed.
