Abstract
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid acceleration of digital transformation has led to a surge in demand for software (SW) developers. However, recent economic downturns and reduced investment have caused increasing rigidity in the recruitment market. Amid this context, the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI) is bringing about significant changes in the roles of SW developers and the structure of the hiring process. This study analyzes the projected impact of Generative AI on the SW developer labor market through a Delphi survey of experts. The findings suggest that Generative AI is likely to replace routine tasks performed by junior developers, leading to a decline in hiring demand at the entry level. Conversely, demand for senior developers is expected to increase, contributing to a widening polarization in the labor market. The study also identifies a shift in required developer competencies toward creative problem-solving, AI utilization, and domain-specific knowledge. Furthermore, the influence of Generative AI on recruitment processes and related concerns over fairness and validity are gaining prominence. By forecasting these technology-driven shifts, this study offers valuable insights for policymakers developing digital talent strategies, as well as for job seekers navigating a transforming employment landscape.
