Abstract
The purpose of the research is to examine early settlement experience related to resident nonimmigrant Korean families already settled or trying to settle in US. The research will especially focus on so called the new Korean immigration generation who has chosen to emigrate to U.S. with family after 2000, For this purpose, we have used hermeneutical grounded theory methodology among the quality researches to examine the meaning and process of the experience. Total 139 meaning units, 48 subcategories, and 13 categories are produced by the result. The early experience of resident nonimmigrant Korean families in the US showed 5 settlement periods in large-migration, self-awareness, adjustment, adaptation and stable/unfinished settlement. The conclusion of this research has interpreted the early experience of resident nonimmigrant Korean families within the US as an anticipation for 'economic sucess' for the participants themselves and 'educational achievement' for the children-that is as the 'opening a new opportunities for the family through the immigration' process. This study has academic achievements since it establishes a theoretical process through studying early experience of resident nonimmigrant Korean family as well as it can provide basic information to develop support program.
