초록

Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are the most vulnerable to climatechange and their capacity to adapt climate change is very limited. This is themain reason why the global community pays special attention to SIDS. Maldives is a typical example of SIDS where eco-tourism is the main economicactivity. However unfortunately, Maldives heavily rely on imported oil and fossilfuels for power generation, which means that the energy system of eachisland in Maldives is sensitive to the volatile oil price. It is common touse diesel generators, at small islands in Maldives. The selected site is aresort island, Kandooma where we assume to replace one dieselgenerator with a solar system with ESS in a hotel. We compare theconventional diesel generation and with a solar energy system equippedwith the most advanced Energy Saving System (ESS) to demonstrate the application of leap-frogging technology in SIDS. In addition, the result offinancial simulation analysis provides feasible financial options to install asolar energy system in a remote island.
