홍콩 영화산업이 중국 영화시장에 진출한 이후 일어나는 변화는 중국 영화시장에 진출하고자 하는 한국 영화산업도 겪을 가능성이 큰 현상이므로 유념하여 지켜볼 필요가 있다. 따라서 중국 영화시장 진출 이후 홍콩 영화산업의 변화와 실질정책 분석에 대한 지속적인 연구가 불가피한 상황이다. 중국에 반환된 이후 홍콩 영화는 유리한 입장으로 중국 영상시장에 진출할 수 있게 되었다. 홍콩 영화의 중국 영화시장 진출은 중국 영화산업에 새로운 활력이 되었고, 홍콩 영화산업에도 또 다른 활로를 제공해 반환 전 위축되었던 홍콩 영화산업을 활성화시켰다. 하지만 홍콩 영화의 중국 영화시장 진출이 홍콩 영화산업에 긍정적 영향을 미친 것만은 아니다. 중국 영화시장으로 진출하기 위해 홍콩 영화는 중국정부의 심의를 통과해야 했고, 이 과정에서 홍콩 영화의 개성이 약화되었으며, 홍콩 영화 인력이 중국으로 진출하여, 순수 홍콩 영화제작이 감소하는 현상을 가져왔다. 홍콩 영화의 중국 영화시장 진출은 중국 영화시장 진출을 준비하는 한국 영화산업에 의미하는 바가 크며, 지속적인 연구로 한국에 적합한 중국 영화시장 진출 방안을 모색해야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The Hong Kong film industry has lessons for the Korean film industry in terms of how to enter the Chinese market. Research is needed on the changes witnessed in the Hong Kong film industry following its entry into the Chinese film market, with analysis of local film-related policies. After Hong Kong’s incorporation within China, the Hong Kong film industry was able to enter the Chinese film market advantageously. Many Hong Kong films entered the Chinese film market, becoming a source of new vitality for the industry and providing a source of growth for the Hong Kong film industry, helping it to becoming vitalized following a slump. Yet, there is not a single, simple story of the entrance of the Hong Kong film industry into the Chinese film market. To enter the Chinese film market, Hong Kong films must be cleared for release by the Chinese government, weakening the individuality of Hong Kong films and reducing the release of purely Hong Kong cinema. There was also an exodus of workers from the Hong Kong film industry to China. Given that the Korean film industry is poised for a full-scale entrance into the Chinese film market, the case of Hong Kong is instructive. Further research is required to uncover specific measures effective for the case of Korea.
