The estimation about Jin Yong was conflict with each other. The polemic of Jin Yong was proved incentive by Wang Shuo's submission, I see Jin Yong, Nov. 1st, 1999. I examined the main claim of Wang Shuo and Jin Yong thoroughly, and then analysed the orthodox literature vs popular litertature, author-oriented critique vs genre-oriented critique and center vs periphery. As I take it, the Polemic of Chinese popular literature was continued from the Polemic of Mandarin Ducks and Butterflies that is the first polemic of Modern Chinese popular literature, and then the polemic of Beijing school and Shanghai school, and finally to the polemic of Jin Yong and Wang Shuo, that is the collision between orthodox literature vs popular literature in the end of the 20th century. In order to read Jin Yong's novel not as literature but as cultural paradigm, we should understand the Chinese culture area as a unitary social organization, while regarding the unitarity as decenterizing and reiterating. The literary value could not be redifined and resumed until we discard the hegemonic belief of authorism about the literary value at the critic to Jin Yong's novel. Only when we admit the division of orthodox literature and popular literature in common discussion, we could overcome the crisis of literary world.
