Abstract

Traditionally, automotive marketing has emphasized product-centric communication, including offline showrooms, online vehicle information, new car launch events, advertising, and test-drive programs. However, as technological performance becomes increasingly standardized and consumer expect tions continue to evolve, the automotive industry has progressively shifted toward customer experience–centered marketing strategies. In addition to enhancing brand accessibility through pop-up stores and multifunctional cultural spaces, automakers are expanding strategies that enable consumers to directly experience brand value through driving centers and immersive experiential programs. Within this context, Hyundai Motor Group delivers immersive experiences of technological capability and driving performance through its Motor Studio and Driving Experience programs, while BMW operates permanent Driving Centers that integrate track-based driving experiences with exhibition and cultural functions. Despite relatively high participation costs, these experiential marketing programs have demonstrated sustained demand and high levels of customer satisfaction. Nevertheless, academic discussion of their strategic objectives and long-term marketing effects remains limited. This study compares and analyzes the experiential marketing practices of Hyundai Motor Group and BMW to examine the strategic motivations and marketing outcomes of high-involvement, high-cost physical experience programs in the automotive industry. Specifically, by analyzing differences in customer responses according to levels of experiential immersion and the mechanis s through which brand identity is reinforced, this study elucidates the role of experiential marketing in building long-term brand value and customer loyalty beyond short-term sales promotion. In doing so, it offers both theoretical and practical implications for the strategic application of customer experience marketing in the automotive industry, as well as in other high-involvement premium consumer goods industries.
